NW Region History

  • November 11, 1924 – The Fleet Reserve Association is Chartered in Philadelphia, PA
  • March 6, 1927 – Seattle Branch #18 is Chartered as Puget Sound Branch #18
  • September 1926 – The West Coast Region is established at the 3rd FRA National Convention in Baltimore, MD. The region consisted of the 11th through 13th Naval Districts.
  • 1930 – Ladies Auxiliary chartered and organized in New York, but not formally recognized by the FRA til 1936.
  • July 18, 1930 – Bremerton Branch #29 is Chartered
  • November 1930 – Shipmate Daniel O’Neil of Branch #29 was elected as the 4th Regional President West Coast.
  • January 17, 1932 – Cavite City, Philippines Branch #36 was the first of two overseas branches to be authorized at the 2nd quarter National Board of Directors meeting. The second was the Canal Zone/Cristobal, Panama Branch #39.
  • 1933 – Honolulu Branch #58 was established.
  • 1935 – Olongapo City, Philippines Branch #74 chartered.
  • 1936 – La Union City, Philippines Branch #80 chartered
  • November 1936 – With all of the membership growth the FRA had gone through, the West Coast Region is split into 2 separate regions. The newly established Northwest Regional territory was established as being ‘the area north of the California/Oregon State line through Washington and all Pacific overseas Branches.’
    Shipmate Milo Pavonak, of Seattle Branch #18 was elected as the first NW Regional President.
  • 1937 – Manila Branch #82 and San Pedro, Philippines Branch #83 chartered. The position of Regional Vice President of the Philippines established.
  • July 31, 1939 – Grants Pass,OR Branch #68 and Guam Branch #70 chartered.
  • March 15, 1947 – Yokosuka, Japan Branch #103 Chartered
  • July 28, 1947 – Mt. Rainier Branch #104, Tacoma, WA Chartered
