Alexandria, VA – The U.S. Office of Personnel Management recently announced that the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Education Foundation has been approved to participate in the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and will appear on the CFC’s national/international list of charities. The CFC conducts the only authorized solicitation of federal employees on behalf of approved 501(c)3 charitable organizations.
“The FRA Education Foundation was established in 2009 and we’re pleased to be authorized as a CFC charity organization,” explained Joe Barnes, FRA’s national executive director and member of the FRA Education Foundation Board of Directors. “We’re also especially proud of FRA’s strong case statement as the Foundation’s parent organization. The Association’s 2011 consolidated audited financial report indicates that 88 percent of FRA’s dues and revenue is expended for member services, and only 12 percent is spent on administrative costs. That ratio is exceptionally strong and shows our commitment to fiscal responsibility. We’re proud to have made the grade and are honored to be a part of the CFC.”
Contributions to the Foundation can be made during the 2012 CFC using Charity Code #80236 in support of future scholarship awards. The FRA Education Foundation annually presents scholarships of up to $5,000 to college-bound students who have an affiliation with the Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, either through their own service, or that of a spouse, parent or grandparent. FRA Education Foundation scholarships are funded through private donations, established trusts and corporate sponsorships, and recipients are selected based on financial need, academic standing, character and leadership qualities.
FRA members can also donate to the Education Foundation online at www.fra.org/support and information about the scholarship program, including application forms, is available at www.fra.org/foundation. The deadline to apply for Foundation scholarships is April 15th of each year.
“Last year, we awarded $124,000 to 30 scholars,” said Barnes. “We’re excited about the continued growth of the Foundation and look forward to the possibility of expanding awareness and support for our scholarship program through the CFC.”
Donations to the FRA Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, are welcome from individuals, organizations and businesses, and are tax deductible.
