This weekend marks several auspicious dates for members of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), Veterans Day, the Marine
Corps birthday and the anniversary of FRA’s establishment and each will be recognized in different ways.
The FRA and its mission are inextricably tied to those who serve and have served in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard,” said Mark Kilgore, FRA’s national president. “Past, present and future service members and their families have made, and will continue to make, enormous sacrifices for our nation and their fellow citizens. This weekend and always, FRA is committed to honoring their service, ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten and that promises made to these brave men and women are kept.”
FRA shipmates will participate in Veterans Day ceremonies around the country to honor those who wear or have worn the cloth of our nation. Among the solemn tributes, Kilgore and Diane Hoover, national president of the Association’s Auxiliary, will participate in ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and a special wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns on Sunday, November 11th. Veterans Day also marks FRA’s 88th year of protecting the interests of enlisted members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
FRA also salutes the U.S. Marine Corps on its November 10th birthday. The Corps,
established by the Second Continental Congress on that date in 1775, will mark its
237th birthday with ceremonies and celebrations around the world.
Thank you all for your service.
FRA is a congressionally chartered, non-profit organization representing the interests of current and former enlisted personnel of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. As the collective voice for all Sea Service personnel since 1924, FRA speaks on behalf of its members on Capitol Hill. There is no law protecting military benefits, so FRA is here to stand guard. In addition to its advocacy work on Capitol Hill, FRA also sponsors a national Americanism Essay Contest and assists its members with disaster relief grants.
The Association additionally sponsors an Education Foundation that awards scholarships to deserving college students and is a recognized charity in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC Code #80236). For more information on the FRA Education Foundation, visit www.fra.org/foundation.
