The passing of PRPNW Ted Russell

The regional officers were informed by the family of PRPNW Ted Russell that he had passed away. Shipmate Russell was a long time member of Bremerton Branch #29 and was the NW Regional President for the FRA association year 1996-97.

Theodore Kenneth Russell, 85 of Bremerton, WA, passed away 28 Dec 2011 at Harrison Medical Center after struggling with pneumonia and other pulmonary disorders. Born 13 Aug 1926 in Lancaster, PA, to Charles E and Elsie Mae Oettel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth. “Ted” volunteered at age 17 to the U.S. Navy and served the Pacific Theater in the silent service during the later years of World War II. Upon the conclusion of the war he continued his service in the U.S. Navy reserves until becoming fully active again in 1957. Ted was among the first Navy men who introduced the nuclear era to naval submarines. Ted retired a well-respected Master Chief Petty Officer in 1976 after 30 years of dedicated and passionate service. After retirement Ted was a longtime active member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the VFW.

Theodore is survived by sons Steven and Stephanie of Singapore, Kevin and Nancy of Ponte Verda Beach, Florida, Michael of Burlingame CA, Neil and Annie of American Falls, Idaho; and stepchildren Ivan and Julie Hublein of Kennewick, WA, Steven Hublein of Bremerton, WA, Fontella Hill of San Diego, CA, Annetta and Earl Varner of Bremerton, WA, Catherine and John Walter of Aurora, CO; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
